Love Sharing Project
“Cruise of Love”
The Cruise of Love event, part of the Love Sharing Project, was the first initiative of its kind in the Korean American community. Designed to celebrate and strengthen the bonds of family love, the event was held annually from 2017 to 2019.
The program offered a 4-day, 3-night cruise during summer vacation, departing from Long Beach, sailing to Ensenada, Mexico, and returning to Long Beach. Each year, approximately 30 families—around 100 participants—were selected through heartfelt story submissions received via Radio Korea’s popular morning program Achim Madang. The families were invited aboard to enjoy a joyful trip and create meaningful memories together.
Open Bank supported the event with a team of ten staff members, including President Min Kim, who participated from planning through the final day. Special guests included Charles Kim, President of iCAN, and U.S. Congresswoman Young Kim and her spouse, whose presence made the event even more memorable.
Children prepared surprise video messages for their parents, creating touching and emotional moments during the trip.
In one particularly meaningful instance, a young couple who had been unable to hold a wedding ceremony after registering their marriage were gifted with a special onboard wedding.
Families with children on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities—who had never been able to take a full family vacation—were also invited, giving them the chance to experience a cruise together for the first time.
Eligible Organizations & Activities
- Civic non-profit organizations which provide direct health care, youth activities, elderly care, disabled persons care, women programs for special care needs, assisted living, or educational programs.
- Christian non-profit organizations which provide food, shelter, or career training, or serves underprivileged nations by providing agricultural, educational, or health assistance, and spiritual guidance.
- Non-profit organizations with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
Required Documents
- 2 years of most recent signed tax returns.
- 3 months of most recent bank statements.
- Comprehensive and detailed description of organization overview (Application Narrative).
- Comprehensive and detailed description of proposed program, project, and activity (with Projected Budget).
- 501(c)(3) tax identification documents for applicable non-profit organizations.
Non-Eligible Organizations & Activities
- Political action committees.
- For profit organizations or businesses.
- Loans or program-related investments (e.g. gap/bridge funding, speculative activities, etc).
- Fundraising events, dinners, or related activities.
- Indiviudal church, seminary, or missionary.
- Public media organizations (e.g. newspaper, radio, TV).
